Proud of him


My son has stammered since he could first string a sentence together. It’s genetic on his dads side – my husband doesn’t stammer but his brother and their dad do.

My son is such a confident child, he has never let his stammer stop him from talking. He will talk to anyone, even standing in front of a class room full of people. His confidence is amazing. In fact, I’m pretty sure I worry more than he does. But sometimes he becomes painfully aware of his stammer and it breaks my heart. I have seen people completely dismiss him because they can’t be bothered to wait for him to get his words out. People have mimicked him and laughed at him. When I say people I generally mean children. And, of course, kids will be kids. But that look on my sons face is soul crushing. I wish I could…
