This Tuesday’s Tale: Jack

Today we take a look back at Jack. Jack is a little dog that was found in a dumpster by a little boy. Sadly, this happens more than you think. Honestly, how can people be so cruel?

I wrote a tale about Jack back in October. Kathy, Jack’s pet parent, recently shared some photos of Jack. I decided to share them with you and give you a link to Jack’s tale.

Below is Jack happy to have tummy time. 🙂

It’s Just An Animal

How many of you have come across someone who has said to you, “it’s just an animal!”? Well, I don’t know about you, but I can’t even express how frustrating this is to me.

A young blogger contacted me about a debate she is having with someone over the use of animals in entertainment. It sounds like their discussion has gotten heated and the last thing I know is that he said the following comment about elephants, “Their tusks are useful and men want to use them. They are just animals.”

This Tuesday’s Tale: Teachers

This Tuesday Tale is a little different. I would like to start off with a tale about Judith. Please watch the video below.

This month teachers are celebrated and shown appreciation for what they do for children. Some of you know that I work around children and today Chipotle Restaurant was offering “Buy One, Get One.” A deal only for teachers. I came home with a veggie burrito and a veggie salad. Mmm, mmm, good! Dinner taken care of. 🙂

Is this post seeming to be all over the place? Well, there is a point and hopefully I’ll pull it all together.

This Tuesday’s Tale: Tee

The tale of a lucky cat named Tee

Doesn’t Tee look so relaxed and comfortable? What could be better than lying in the garden getting some sun? 🙂 (see post for picture)

Sadly less than a month ago Tee was not so relaxed, but found himself in a terrible predicament. He was found screaming face down in a barn in a pile of junk with his paw stuck in a trap. Below is the actual trap he was found in. Isn’t it horrible?! (see post for picture)

What Wouldn’t Jesus Do?

My blog isn’t just about animals, its about how people perceive animals. Humans are to be stewards of the animals on earth and instead are powering over them. Jesus didn’t even do that to us. Although he does have all of the power, he powered under people, serving them. He is loving and peaceful.

What about your boss? They have the power at a job, but does that mean they can or should abuse you? Are they not there to teach, help, encourage, and to keep order?

You have probably heard the saying “What Would Jesus Do?.” What about what Jesus wouldn’t do? Easter is a Christian holiday where we focus on the love of Jesus, so I would like to give you some thoughts on what he wouldn’t do.

This Tuesday’s Tale: Buddy Unchained

Last year I took a course through RedRover called “RedRover Readers.” Here is a paragraph explaining a bit about the program.

The RedRover Readers program promotes empathy by presenting powerful stories, encouraging children to put themselves in the place of animals, and asking questions that promote critical thinking. A 2009 pilot study of the program (then known as the Humane Education Ambassador Readers) conducted by Inverness Research, Inc. suggests that the program:
~Builds self-esteem and motivates students to take an important subject seriously
~Stimulates additional student-directed learning
~Builds students’ knowledge and potentially affects their behaviors related to caring for pets
~Builds students’ empathy and compassion for pets

Are Animal Advocates Judgmental?

I’ve heard people say animal advocates are “judgmental.” So, I look at myself and I think…am I? Let me tell you a few stories.

Years ago I worked at an animal hospital. It was a weekend job caring for the animals that were boarded there. I was so excited! I was still trying to figure out where I wanted to put my passion for animals to use. I was so excited to learn and see if this might be the type of business I would want to be in. But I didn’t like the veterinarian and in the end, he said I was always asking questions and “suspicious.” Well…you be the judge.

In Their Hooves

The rodeo…when I was a teenager I thought the idea of animals and cowboys seemed so exciting. I thought I might grow up to marry a cowboy one day. The movie Urban Cowboy was one of my favorite movies. Who could resist the cool Bud played by John Travolta?!

Sunday Pause (Paws) for Animals

This Sunday, I wanted to try my hand at a little poetry again. So kick back, take a little break and I hope the message I am trying to convey comes through in what I wrote.

Female and male come together
A life is formed in the womb
When it’s time, born into this world
A baby’s life is brand new

Unable to care for itself
This new life needs love and care
Help from another life
And certainly the need for prayer

The full poem is here.

Have a great Sunday!

Humans vs. Animals

Humans and animals, we share this earth together.

But as an animal advocate you’re judged. You’re judged because people think you care more about them than you do humans. Or that their worth is insignificant. Or that they don’t feel pain. To some people they are “just” animals. But to God they are HIS creatures, just as we are, and he never intended for the abuse that is afflicted upon them every day by humans.

As far as the caring more about animals than humans, it’s not about that. It’s about the fact that animals are being abused and are suffering and somebody has to help them.

I heard a story about two young guys who cut off a dog’s ears and then took a selfie.
